Battle of Ottawa

Next Tuesday (January 21st) marks the eight annual Battle of Ottawa where your Carleton Ravens take on the uOttawa Gee Gees at Canadian Tire Center in the Capital Hoops Classic! Both the men and women have dominated in the past, with the women taking down the Gee Gees in a 68-50 finish last year! After a nail-biter of a game, the men also came out on top with a 63-58 finish, showing once again why they are the number one ranked team in the nation!

This year the Gee Gees will be out for revenge. When the two teams met earlier this season, both Carleton teams finished on top once again. The women came out strong and beat the Gee Gees by 15 points, finishing the game with a solid 60 points over the Gee Gees’ 55. The men’s game was also quite the battle because Carleton and uOttawa are currently ranked number one and two in the country respectively. After an exciting battle for their first meeting of the season, Carleton came out on top with a 94-71 finish, keeping their number one seat in Canada!

Heading into the game next week, the Ravens men’s team sits in the number one spot in the nation while the Gee Gees remain number two (where they belong). The Ravens women’s team is currently unranked at the national level while the Gee Gees are currently holding onto the 8th seat. Capital Hoops also sets the stage for the men’s 2014 Final 8 Basketball Championship taking place March 7-9th also at Canadian Tire Center where the Ravens will be vying for their tenth national championship.

Tickets to Capital Hoops can be purchased every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the atrium (4th floor UC) from the Red Zone table. Captains will be selling tickets from 10am until 2:15pm. Tickets cost $15 and include your entrance to the game as well as buses to and from CTC. Want to come out and get pumped up and face painted before the game? You’ll be able to find us in Ollie’s getting ready for a wild night. Beware of #FOMO though – the fear of missing out – if you do drink, do so responsibly. No one likes a sloppy drunk and no one wants to forget this unreal night as the Ravens once again ride the Gee Gees to a successful finish. Buses will be leaving on Tuesday from the front of UC. The women tip off at 6pm and the men at 8pm. Want more information? Check out our event page here, follow us on Twitter @CU_Redzone, and like us on Facebook
